Indiana Dunes National Park

Sunday Lilly and I travelled to Indiana Dunes National Park for a day at the beach and to explore through the forest. Little did I know how difficult the trails would be when you’re not in shape! But, I powered through and made it to the top of the hill, literally. This is a place I will most DEFINITELY return to.

The first part of the hike was relatively easy, as it was along the beach and the water had packed the sand down enough to provide proper footing. And the lake was beautiful on Sunday! It was definitely picturesque and very relaxing.

Lilly thoroughly enjoyed the waves, though at first she was a little uneasy about the water rushing towards here. After she realized she was okay, she would just brace her little legs and take on the wave!

Once we walked down the beach a bit we decided to make our own trail up the dunes. And boy was it difficult! It took me a few tries (and lets be real, a few breaks) to get up the sandy hill. But, the view from the top was breathtaking and so worth the increased heart rate and sand all over my body! From this view, you almost feel like you’re at the ocean.

Once we got up the hill we walked through the forest, which is where I feel most at home. The going was a little easier here as well, though there were spots the sand was pretty loose and I really got a work out in.

The fall colors really draw you in and bring you into nature. It actually makes you forget there is a lake not to far from you when you’re walking through the forest. Though, you can still faintly hear the waves crashing against the shore.

All in all, it was a great hike, and I can’t wait to go back again!

‘Till next time,

Felicia
